How does an air source heat pump work?
Air source heat pumps work by extracting the air outside and using it to heat your home. The heat pump is housed in a small stand-alone box that sits outside your home and contains a fan, a pump and a network of tubes.
The air source heat pump works like a fridge in reverse. The outside air heats liquid refrigerant contained in the tubes. This liquid heats at very low temperatures and once hot enough turns into a gas. The gas is then compressed by a pump which makes it even hotter. This hot gas either heats the air for your home or heats water and sends it around the house.
