National Apprenticeship Week

We have just finished celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023. National Apprenticeship Week was held in the second week of February and the theme this year was one that truly resonated with our own values – “Skills for life”. Here at Next Energy, we run multiple apprenticeship programs in the office and on-site as a way of introducing local young adults to the industry, offering them the opportunity to develop a rewarding career, learn transferable skills, and gain the qualifications that they will need to set them up to achieve their life-long ambitions.

What apprenticeships offer to apprentices

This week is designed to bring together businesses and apprentices and to highlight the positive impact that apprentices offer to the individuals, the businesses that employ them, and the wider economy. Apprenticeships offer young people an opportunity to get hands-on in their chosen industry, learning on the job from experienced mentors and developing their skills and knowledge in an environment that challenges and rewards them in equal measure.

What apprenticeships offer to the wider economy

One of our core values is the creation of local jobs for local people, and apprenticeships fit in remarkably well with this value. Apprenticeships allow young people to work in the industry they desire, gaining a qualification and adding to the local economy.

Our apprentices

For National Apprenticeship Week, we have chosen to focus on two apprentices this year, one from our office team and the other from our electrical team. Our first apprentice, Carl, has been with us since September & is studying Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installations. Carl is progressing excellently & we couldn’t be happier with him! 

Another apprentice that deserves to be mentioned is Lydia. Lydia is on a Level 2 Finance Assistant apprenticeship We are delighted with the work Lydia continues to do & she is a valued member of our team. Once she has completed her Level 2 apprenticeship she aims to work towards her Level 3!
