The Government’s launch of the Warm Homes Plan marks the largest, and most welcome, investment the retrofit sector has seen. A £15 billion commitment, if deployed effectively, has the potential to transform families lives and accelerate the UK’s wider Net Zero goals.
The accompanying budget signals a further £38 billion of anticipated private sector investment in innovation, UK manufacturing, skills, and workforce development.
The announcement provides an initial sense of direction for the next four years. However, clarity on how and when the plan will be administered is urgently needed. Following the withdrawal of the Energy Company Obligation and delays to yesterday’s update, we are already seeing job losses and business closures, developments that risk undermining delivery of the WHP.
We now look forward to detailed timelines and interim measures to maintain capacity and protect critical sector skills.
