What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?
Administered by Ofgem and running until March 2026, the Great British Insulation Scheme is designed to:
- Insulate the least energy-efficient properties around the UK
- Reduce the UK’s carbon emissions
- Tackle fuel poverty
What Are the Benefits of the Great British Insulation Scheme?
With this scheme, the Government is taking real steps to help the residents of the least energy efficient homes improve their energy efficiency by funding important home improvements, including boiler upgrades and insulation.
If your household qualifies, you can benefit from this scheme in several ways, most importantly in terms of reducing your energy bills and making your home more comfortable during the colder winter months.
How Much Money Could I Save?
There are many different types of insulation covered by the scheme, all of which could help you to save hundreds of pounds on your energy bills every year. Research has found that installing loft insulation in your property could help you to lower your energy bills by as much as £315 each year.
Am I Eligible?
In order to qualify, you will need to meet a specific set of eligibility criteria.
In England, you must:
Live in a property within council tax band A-D
Live in a property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G
In Scotland & Wales, you must:
Live in a property within council tax band A-E
Live in a property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G
What’s important is that the scheme isn’t just for homeowners and landlords. If you are a tenant, either renting from a housing association or renting privately, you may still be eligible. Please note that you’ll need to discuss the scheme with your landlord before submitting an application because insulation can only be installed with their permission.
