An Overview of Housing 24
The annual Housing 24 conference is the biggest housing sector conference in the UK and provides a range of opportunities for businesses and individuals throughout the UK housing sector to come together, share ideas, and push for further innovation.
Housing 24 is the annual event that many of us in the housing sector get excited about and this year’s conference came at an especially interesting time because it coincided with the UK General Election and news regarding the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, both of which were hot topics of conversation throughout the week.
There were a number of well-known figures delivering keynote speeches throughout the conference, including Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, columnist and commentator Gaby Hinsliff, and broadcaster Ranvir Singh.
Next Energy at Housing 24
Abi and Gareth from our Bids Team represented Next Energy at Housing 24 this year. During their time at the conference, Abi and Gareth attended a variety of panels discussing everything from how to tackle the skills shortage, the sector is experiencing to the best ways to sufficiently reward residents who volunteer their time in their local neighbourhood.
What We’ve Learned From Housing 24
As well as having the opportunity to meet our clients and fellow industry professionals, Housing 24 has given us plenty of fresh insights that will allow us to continue to enhance and improve our services and meet the ever-changing needs of our clients and residents.
Some of the most interesting discussions and thoughts that we engaged with during the conference included:
1. Retrofit Decarbonisation
Environmental concerns are quite rightly at the heart of so many discussions happening across the UK housing sector, so it was incredibly interesting to learn more about the ways businesses are already successfully delivering projects at scale and how different professionals in the industry can get involved to inspire even greater change.
2. Housing and Establishing Communities
Housing is so much more than bricks and mortar, it also plays a central role in the development of strong communities. This is something all of us in the housing sector must highlight at every opportunity because it provides vital input to so many other conversations, particularly when it comes to the rental market, social housing, and the needs of an ageing population.
The tagline of this year’s conference was ‘Uniting the sector. Making lives better.’ which is something we have taken to heart. We’re all geared up to ensure that we’re best placed to help in making positive changes moving forward.
